Where to start
Where to start in Estepona.
The historic centre as a living garden
Since 2012, Estepona has reclaimed its streets for pedestrians. Over 13,000 flower pots, hundreds of hidden corners and a historic centre that makes more sense on foot than in any guidebook.
Best before 11am. The jasmine, the flower pots and the quiet haven't been discovered by tourists yet.
ExploreOver 50 murals
International artists painted the blank walls of the historic centre. The result: an open-air art gallery, free to visit, discovered corner by corner.
ExploreThe only pinsapo forest on red rock
30 minutes from the centre, Sierra Bermeja has the only pinsapo (Spanish fir) forest growing on peridotite in Europe. A forest 35 million years old, found nowhere else on the planet.
ExploreCorners nobody looks for
On Calle Sevilla there are verses by Antonio Machado carved into the wall, a bust of the poet and colourful flower pots. It doesn't appear in any tourist guide. That's what makes it special.
ExploreThe old town
The old town is a garden. You have to walk it.
You don't need to go anywhere in particular. No ticket to buy. Just step into any car-free street and let the city reveal itself: flowers on the walls, quiet lanes before eleven, murals nobody looks at twice because they've become part of the backdrop.
Perfect time
Best before 11am. The streets smell of fresh flowers and the tourists are still asleep.
