Carnival in Estepona
Comparsas, chirigotas and the historic centre as a stage. Estepona's Carnival is human-scale: easy to enjoy, hard to forget.
This edition took place in 2026. The event is held every year in Estepona.February or early March — variable date depending on the liturgical calendar.
Estepona's Carnival takes over the historic centre for several days in February. It doesn't have the scale of the great Andalusian carnivals — and that's exactly what makes it accessible.
The comparsas parade through the centre streets. Groups form in the old town's bars. The chirigotas — satirical music groups — improvise and perform. The whole city takes part naturally, without visitors feeling like they're watching from the outside.
Carnival in Estepona falls during the quiet season. In February, the city moves at a different pace: accommodation is more affordable, restaurants have availability and there's more room to move. It's one of the best times to get to know Estepona without the pressure of high summer.
One of the best times of year to visit Estepona if what you're looking for is the real city, not the high-season version.
