Gran Espetada de Sardinas

Gran Espetada de Sardinas with free tasting at the fishing port breakwater, part of Estepona Town Hall's summer cultural programme.

One-off event — summer 2026
Fishing port breakwater, Estepona

This edition took place in 2026.

On Saturday 5 September, at 8:00 pm, the breakwater of Estepona's fishing port hosts a Gran Espetada de Sardinas with free tasting, part of the summer cultural programme organised by Estepona Town Hall.

It follows the Andalusian tradition of grilling sardines skewered on cane over open coals by the sea, and it does so where that makes most sense: on the fishing port breakwater, with the fleet moored alongside and the sunset straight ahead.

It takes 350 kilos of sardines and four grill masters to pull it off: Miguel León, Alfonso Marín, Miguel Saint and Nicolás Joaquín Gavín. The Brotherhood of Our Lady of Carmen Coronada runs the solidarity bar, at popular prices, with live music through the evening.

The tasting is free while stocks last. It is a late-afternoon plan that pairs well with a walk around the port.

Four grill masters, 350 kilos of sardines and the embers lit facing the fishing fleet. From eight on Saturday, Estepona's breakwater smells of woodsmoke and sea again.
