Old town
Squares, heritage and streets to walk.
Plaza de las Flores, Clock Tower, Castle, Roman Mausoleum and the Church of the Remedies. All on foot, no ticket, in the centre of Estepona.
The street art murals are here too. The old town is at once a gallery, a heritage site and a living neighbourhood.
Before you go
Best before 11am. The streets are quiet, the light is at an angle and the heat hasn't arrived yet. The old town is entirely on foot and can be covered in an hour without rushing.
Historic square · Old town
Plaza de las Flores
The reference point of the old town. Colourful flower pots, whitewashed houses and the daily life of the neighbourhood concentrated around a small, intimate square. The most reproduced image of Estepona and the reason many visitors recognise it.

Clock Tower
Four lives in one building: possible Arab minaret, Christian bell tower from 1472, 18th-century neoclassical dome, and freestanding tower since the 1755 Lisbon earthquake. The most recognisable element of the old town's historic skyline.

Castle of Estepona
Built in the early 16th century to defend the coast from Berber raids. The castle's remains are part of the urban fabric of the old town and can be seen from the street. One of the elements that define the historic skyline of Estepona.

Roman Mausoleum
Remains of a Roman mausoleum discovered in the historic centre. A reminder that Estepona has documented occupation from classical times, long before the Arabs or the Catholic Monarchs arrived.
18th century · Franciscan convent
Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios
The main church of Estepona, built between 1725 and 1766 on the site of an old Franciscan convent. Baroque façade on the Plaza de la Iglesia. The centre of religious and cultural life in the old town.

Ten minutes from the old town, at the Sports Harbour, are the three free municipal museums: the Ethnographic, the Palaeontological and the Bullfighting Museum. They are not part of the historic centre, but belong to the same Estepona history walk.
