On 2 January 2027, at 8:30 pm, the Teatro Felipe VI in Estepona welcomes the Ballet Clásico Internacional with 'Swan Lake', Tchaikovsky's classic about the love between Prince Siegfried and Princess Odette, enchanted and turned into a swan by the evil Rothbart. Numbered tickets are on sale from €38.50.

It is a different production from the Kyiv Ballet's, which played the same stage in October: same story, different company — a good example of how a classic holds more than one reading on the Felipe VI stage. Directed by Andréi Sharáev -a former soloist at the National Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Moldova, who trained as a choreographer at the Academy of Music, Theatre and Fine Arts of Chișinău-, the company adapts the original choreography by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, the version that rescued the ballet in 1895 after its premiere flopped at Moscow's Bolshoi Theatre in 1877.

The Ballet Clásico Internacional has been presenting classical ballet in Spain for more than 35 years and has won three Best Dance Show awards at the Teatro de Rojas in Toledo (2013, 2015 and 2018) and the Best Dance Show award in Vigo in 2008. Its soloists include Tatiana and Nicolai Nazachevici -former principal dancers with the National Ballet of China and the Moldova Opera-, Ukrainian dancer Ievgen Lagunov -winner of the Vaganova International Ballet Competition (2002) and the Serge Lifar International Ballet Competition (2006)- and Lina Sheveleva, trained at the Bolshoi.

One classic, two readings: barely three months after the Kyiv Ballet, the Felipe VI raises the curtain again on 'Swan Lake' with a different company, with soloists trained at the Bolshoi, the Mariinsky and the Moldova Opera.
