El Brujo — Iconos o la exploración del destino
Actor Rafael Álvarez, known as 'El Brujo', brings his show 'Iconos o la exploración del destino' to the Teatro Felipe VI.
On 10 October 2026, at 9:00 pm, the Teatro Felipe VI in Estepona hosts 'Iconos o la exploración del destino', the show by actor Rafael Álvarez, known as 'El Brujo', one of the best-known names in Spanish one-man theatre. Numbered tickets are on sale from €25.30.
'Iconos o la exploración del destino' closes the trilogy on oral tradition and mythological storytelling that Álvarez began with 'Esquilo, nacimiento y muerte de la tragedia' and continued with 'Los dioses y Dios'. In this third instalment, which he wrote, directed and performs himself, he works through the stories of four figures from Greek tragedy — Medea, Oedipus, Antigone and Hecuba — with humour, exploring how fate operates in their lives, and draws a comparison with the idea of karma in Hindu mythology, where determinism coexists with the notion of freedom. The show runs 100 minutes with no interval, with live music by Javier Alejano.
Rafael Álvarez (Lucena, Córdoba, 1950) trained at Spain's Royal School of Dramatic Art (RESAD) and began his stage career in 1970, working with independent companies such as Tábano and the Teatro Experimental Independiente. In 1988 he co-founded the theatre producer Pentación with José Luis Alonso de Santos, Gerardo Malla and Jesús Cimarro, and in 1995 he set up his own company, Producciones El Brujo. His best-known productions include 'El Evangelio de San Juan', 'Lazarillo de Tormes' and 'La taberna fantástica'. His career has been recognised with Spain's Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts (2002), the Pepe Isbert National Theatre Award (2009) and the Medalla de Andalucía (2012).
From Lucena to stages across Spain: El Brujo brings Estepona the close of his trilogy on fate, with Greek tragedy turned into an exercise in humour and live music.
