Giselle — Worldwide Ballet Theatre

'Giselle' comes to Teatro Felipe VI in Estepona on 19 December 2026, at 7:30 pm, courtesy of Worldwide Ballet Theatre.

Composed by Adolphe Adam in just three weeks in 1841, it is one of the great works of Romantic ballet: demanding choreographic technique in the service of a love story that survives death. The plot, inspired by poet Théophile Gautier from a German legend recorded by Heinrich Heine, follows Giselle, a young peasant girl who, after dying of a broken heart, becomes one of the Wilis — spirits of young women who dance in the forest at night and condemn the men who abandoned them to dance until death — and who still chooses to save the man who betrayed her.

With over 150 years of history, it remains one of the most performed ballets in the international classical repertoire.
