La Vuelta 2026 — Stage 19 finish at Peñas Blancas

On Friday 11 September, La Vuelta a España climbs to Peñas Blancas once again. Stage 19 starts in Vélez-Málaga and covers 205.1 kilometres before taking on the final ramp: the road that climbs from the Estepona coast through Sierra Bermeja to the finish line, a first-category summit finish with more than 19 kilometres of climbing and over 1,200 metres of elevation gain.

Peñas Blancas is one of those finishes that decide races. The climb starts almost at sea level and never lets up: you ride with your back to the Mediterranean, the coast further below with every bend and the pine forest of Sierra Bermeja all around. Two stages from Madrid, it is the last big piece of terrain where the general classification can break apart.

There are two different ways to watch it from here. One is to go up the mountain many hours in advance and put up with the sun at the top. The other is to stay where the race passes along the coast: it lasts a moment, but it is free and involves no hiking.

The town's programme already confirms times: the publicity caravan passes at 4:00 pm and the stage reaches the finish line at 5:30 pm.
