Premiere of 'Estepona, Jardín de Luz' — Suite for Band

On 20 November, at the Teatro Auditorio Felipe VI, the Estepona Municipal Band premieres 'Estepona, Jardín de Luz', the suite for band composed by David Rivas Domínguez, winner of the 5th International Composition Competition for Symphonic Band 'Estepona, Jardín de la Costa del Sol', worth €10,000 and organised by the Town Hall.

The work, conducted by its own composer, is a descriptive suite in three movements — natural surroundings; light and urban landscape; cultural and musical life — portraying Estepona as a luminous city where landscape, architecture and everyday life coexist in balance. The premiere coincides with the extraordinary concert the Municipal Band holds every year for Santa Cecilia, patron saint of music.

David Rivas (Toro, Zamora, 1980), a graduate in Art History and in the History and Sciences of Music from the University of Salamanca, has a catalogue of over 450 compositions premiered in theatres and concert halls across some thirty countries. Eighteen internationally renowned composers entered this fifth edition of the competition; the jury was chaired by the councillor for Culture, Macarena Diánez, alongside Fernando Ferrer Martínez, Óscar Navarro González and José María Moreno Valiente.
