Cine en la Octava
Seven auteur-cinema screenings at the Library of Contemporary Cultures: Theo Angelopoulos, Sofia Coppola, Jaime Chávarri, Todd Solondz, Xavier Dolan, Jim Jarmusch and John Cassavetes, at 7:00 pm. Free with prior registration.
'Cine en la Octava' is the auteur-cinema season at the Library of Contemporary Cultures, on the Mirador del Carmen. Each session gives the evening over to one director, with the screening starting at 7:00 pm.
On 15 September it was Greek director Theo Angelopoulos, a landmark of European auteur cinema for his long takes and dilated narrative time. On 29 September came Sofia Coppola, the American director behind 'Lost in Translation' and 'The Virgin Suicides'. On 13 October, poetry and film: 50 years of 'El desencanto', with Jaime Chávarri. On 20 October, American director Todd Solondz. November brings Canadian director Xavier Dolan on Tuesday the 3rd and American director Jim Jarmusch on Tuesday the 24th. The season closes on Tuesday 1 December with John Cassavetes, the father of American independent film.

A library overlooking the sea turned into an auteur-cinema screening room for seven evenings between September and December: from Angelopoulos to Jim Jarmusch, free of charge and with limited seating.
