Argentine painter Alejandro Hermann has lived in Marbella for more than three decades and has been painting for more than forty years. The Mirador del Carmen exhibition hall now brings together around thirty of his works under a title that sums them up well: 'From Figure to Matter'.

Hermann works with charcoal, pigments and oxides, and his painting moves in the middle ground between figuration and abstraction. You recognise a shape and then, up close, what is in front of you is matter: layers, texture, colour lifting off the canvas. That journey there and back is the thread of the show.

The Mirador del Carmen sits above Playa del Cristo, at the western end of the seafront promenade, so the visit pairs easily with a walk by the sea before or after.

The opening is on Tuesday 18 August, from 8:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with a cocktail reception. The exhibition then stays open until Saturday 19 September, with free entry.

Thirty-odd canvases, free entry and a hall with the sea in front of it. The perfect short plan for a late-August afternoon.
