Medina Azahara — The Musical

On 13 March 2027, at 9:00 pm, the Teatro Felipe VI in Estepona hosts 'Medina Azahara — The Musical'. Tickets are on sale from €44.

The production, written and produced by José Gutiérrez with the support of Manuel Martínez -founder and vocalist of the Córdoba band-, imagines a dystopian future in the late 22nd century in which music has been banned and emotions have been replaced by artificial implants. Lucía, the protagonist, inherits a ruined theatre that still holds Medina Azahara's songs -the city's last refuge of emotional memory- and must stop a corporation from turning it into an 'emotional erasure centre'. The band's great anthems play out on stage, with stage direction by Miguel de Miguel, musical direction by Nacho Fernández and choreography by Felisa Muñoz.

Medina Azahara was formed in Córdoba in 1979 and became one of the founding bands of Andalusian rock, with anthems such as 'Paseando por la mezquita', 'Necesito respirar' and 'Todo tiene su fin', and the Gold Medal of Merit in Fine Arts (2007) among its honours. After more than 45 years together, the band brought its live performances to a close with the farewell tour 'Todo tiene su fin', which ended on 21 November 2026 at Madrid's Palacio Vistalegre; this musical, with a national premiere planned for February 2027, brings its songs back to the stage just months after that farewell.
