Fortieth edition of the 'Ciudad de Estepona' night chess tournament, on 13 August at 8:00 pm on the seafront promenade. Advance registration required.
Forty editions. The 'Ciudad de Estepona' night chess tournament is played outdoors on the seafront promenade on the night of 13 August, from 8:00 pm, and is one of the longest-running sporting events on the local calendar.
The sight alone is worth the walk even if you do not play: dozens of boards lined up facing the sea, clocks ticking and a silence you rarely find on an August night on the coast.
To take part you must register in advance through the Municipal Chess School. To watch, you just show up.
A forty-year-old local classic. Even without playing, watching dozens of simultaneous games facing the sea is a plan in itself.
